Estuary English Accent

Estuary is an accent of the contemporary London sound, as well as the South of England overall. It's a blend of RP and Cockney - sometimes called Mockney. It tends to sound like either a relaxed Standard British or rather posh Cockney.

Contemporary London Estuary Accent Learning Materials

  • The Estuary accent materials include recordings of AccentHelp coaches Jim Johnson & Kate DeVore guiding you through learning the accent, including leading you through a practice monologue using the accent.
  • You'll get hours of recordings of native speakers, along with a PDF transcript of their conversations so that you can follow along.
  • You'll get a PDF of the teaching materials: a PDF file to print or read on a standard computer, a large-format PDF for portable reading devices, and MOBI for Kindle and EPUB for other portable readers. There are also transcripts of all of the native speakers, included as PDFs.
  • Estuary began to be recognized as a specific accent in the mid-1980's. It's commonly considered the modern London and SE England accent, using many elements of RP along with some Cockney vowels and a number of elements of American speech.
  • All of the sound files are in MP3 format so that you can play them on your computer, load them onto your phone, or even burn them to a CD.
  • You'll receive a link via email so that you can download all of the materials as ZIP files directly to your computer.
  • You'll also get future updates for free! (last update: 2020)

5% of all profits from these materials go to diversity scholarships for actors at the University of Houston.
