New York City Accent Learning Materials

  • The New York accent materials include recordings of AccentHelp coaches Jim Johnson and Carolyn Johnson guiding you through learning the accent. Jim also leads you through applying the Brooklyn accent to a practice monologue, and then covering it in a number of other accents of NYC.
  • Jim gathered most of these native speaker recordings in and around NYC - bringing the experience back to you. You can follow along with the native speakers' conversations in the PDF transcript while you listen.
  • You'll get a PDF of the teaching materials, plus three additional formats of the book: a PDF file to print, MOBI for Kindle, and EPUB for other portable readers.
  • This accent is appropriate for productions of Guys and Dolls and lots of other plays. You also hear it in films and television shows like The Sopranos, Saturday Night Fever and A Bronx Tale.
  • The native speaker recordings will cover a variety of New York area accents, including the various boroughs (Brooklyn accents, Bronx accents, Queens accents, Staten Island, Long Island and Manhattan accents) as well as accents in nearby suburbs and into northern New Jersey and ethnic variations, such as Jewish New York accents. Nuyorican or Latinx New York accents are covered in another set of materials.
  • All of the sound files are in MP3 format so that you can play them on your computer, load them onto your phone, or burn them to a CD.
  • You'll receive a link via email so that you can download all of the materials as ZIP files directly to your computer.
  • You'll also get future updates for free!

5% of all profits from these materials go to diversity scholarships for actors at the University of Houston.
